Michigan soccer loses former West Bloomfield standout Cornell Wheeler to switch portal


As a recruiting rush is underway throughout the nation, Michigan soccer discovered Wednesday it’s going to have one other opening on its roster.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Cornell Wheeler entered the NCAA switch portal.

The 6-foot, 231-pound West Bloomfield product is the second linebacker from the 2020 signing class to go away this system since April after William Mohan did so shortly earlier than the top of spring follow.

Mohan has since landed at Tennessee.

At West Bloomfield, Wheeler made 295 tackles in his ultimate two seasons and was rated a three-star prospect. His coach was Ron Bellamy, who’s now an assistant at Michigan accountable for the safeties.

Wheeler is the twelfth scholarship member of the Wolverines to enter the switch portal since January. Throughout that very same interval, Michigan has acquired commitments from two gamers who began their school careers at different packages — former Texas Tech quarterback Alan Bowman and defensive deal with Jordan Whittley of Oregon State and Laney School.
