Georgia scores one other 5-star QB recruit

No group has carried out a greater job recruiting quarterbacks in recent times than Georgia and coach Kirby Good.

The Bulldogs obtained a dedication Thursday from five-star QB Gunner Stockton. The Georgia native is ranked because the No. 2 pro-style QB within the class of 2022 and had been dedicated to South Carolina. Stockton re-opened his recruitment after South Carolina fired Will Muschamp and employed Shane Beamer.

“I’ve been to Georgia so much, I do know the individuals, and I’ve an excellent relationship with [offensive coordinator Todd] Monken,” Stockton advised Rivals’ UGA Sports activities. “He’s a very good coach, we’ve got a very good connection and we’ve had some actually robust conversations.

“I’ve gotten to know him properly since he obtained to Georgia, he has an excellent offensive thoughts, and he has proven me how I’d match into his offense. He’s enjoyable to take heed to, he’s very artistic, and I feel it will likely be an excellent match for me working with him.”

Stockton’s dedication isn’t official till he indicators with Georgia. As a member of the 2022 class, the earliest he can signal is in December. If and when he does, he’ll be the fifth top-five dual-threat or pro-style QB to signal with the Bulldogs since 2017. And that’s a listing that doesn’t embrace present Georgia starter J.T. Daniels. The previous five-star recruit was the No. 2 pro-style QB within the nation in 2018 behind Trevor Lawrence when he signed with USC out of highschool.

Georgia has essentially the most high QB commitments since 2017

Stockton’s dedication to Georgia means it’s an excellent wager that no group could have signed extra top-tier QBs than the Bulldogs from 2017-2022. Simply two different colleges — Clemson and Ohio State — have gotten 4 signings or commitments from top-tier QBs in that span.

In the mean time, 30 groups have signed or gotten a dedication from a QB within the high 5 of Rivals’ dual-threat or pro-style QB rankings. And solely 12 groups have gotten a number of commitments from top-five QBs in that span; Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Washington, Auburn, Stanford, South Carolina and USC.

Will this recruiting success result in extra QB transfers?

Signing plenty of top-tier QBs is usually a two-sided proposition. It offers a group a greater probability to search out an excellent beginning quarterback. And it can also result in turnover within the quarterback room.

Two of the three high QBs that Georgia has signed since 2017 transferred to different colleges. Whereas 2017 QB Jake Fromm stayed two extra seasons with the college after Georgia went to the nationwide championship sport in his freshman season, 2018 signee Justin Fields transferred to Ohio State after a season and 2019 signee D’wan Mathis transferred to Temple after he began the primary sport of the 2020 season.

Daniels transferred to Georgia forward of the 2020 season and assumed the beginning function midseason after he recovered from a knee harm he sustained at first of the 2019 season. As a senior in 2021, Daniels will doubtless be backed up by five-star QB Brock Vandagriff. He signed with the Bulldogs in December and is the highest pro-style QB within the class and the No. 7 prospect within the nation based on Rivals.

With Stockton set to reach in 2022, Georgia is poised to have each Stockton and Vandagriff on the roster for not less than two seasons. Except one in all them transfers, after all.
